AliveCor Delivers Breakthrough Mobile ECG Device for Veterinarians
SAN FRANCISCO Calif., September 10, 2012

AliveCor, Inc. announced today that its AliveCor® Heart Monitor that attaches to an iPhone or iPod Touch, has made its mobile ECG device available to veterinary professionals. The AliveCor Veterinary Heart Monitor snaps onto an iPhone 4, 4S or iPod touch, and when used with the free AliveECG Vet app, enables veterinarians and technicians to obtain clinical quality, single-channel ECGs on animals.

The Veterinary Heart Monitor is critical for preventive pet healthcare, enabling veterinary professionals to easily screen patients during health and wellness exams, or before placing a patient under anesthesia. Veterinarians can obtain accurate ECG readings, and store them in a secure AliveCor account on the phone and on the web. They can also e-mail and print PDF versions of stored ECGs to apply as part of the medical record or to send to a specialist or colleague.

The Veterinary Heart Monitor is currently in use by top veterinarians and veterinary colleges throughout the United States, and AliveCor is conducting a formal study at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine with dogs, cats, and horses. “The Veterinary Heart Monitor is easy to set up and user-friendly,” said Marc Kraus, DVM, DACVIM, of Cornell. “The tracing is excellent quality, transmission of the data to the cloud is seamless and storage and access to the data is immediate and efficient.”

Judy Wade, president and CEO of AliveCor, said, “We developed this device to enhance the practice of veterinary medicine, improving the quality of care for wellness exams, sick exams and pre-operative screening.”

The AliveCor Veterinary Heart Monitor is currently available in the United States and can be purchased at AliveCorVet.com. The corresponding AliveECG Vet app is available for free download from the Apple App Store or iTunes. A version of the device for human use is currently pending FDA 510(k) clearance.
